Personally, I accepted a development role for Grid specifically because I didn't like what the then-current developer of Grid2 was doing, and didn't want to be stuck without a good set of raid frames when the original Grid developer left WoW. I have no idea what the now-current developer of Grid2 is doing, though. I believe you can use omnicc (an external addon) to add durations to your icons. I believe you can configure omnicc to only show durations as well. Omnicc also apples the duration text to action bars and weak auras. Likely it interacts with other addons as well. This is usually my route if I want to see durations of my spells.

I use Grid2. I briefly swapped to Vuhdo at the start of BfA, but I couldn't quite get it working the way I wanted so I swapped back. I started with Mend's Grid2 profile and customized it a bit for the other classes I play. I found Grid2 to be extremely confusing to set up at first, but got the hang of it pretty quick.

They are mouse clicks. That is why mouse-over doesn't work with those casts. My personal solution is / has been to just not have healing spells on those binds.
